What starts out as a mystery about a serial rapist in a New England college town turns into a mystery about a pair of surgically removed ovaries. The two mysteries have nothing to do with each other except for one muscle-straining point of connection. The first is wrapped up too early and easily; the second, while flagrantly cheating, is worked out well enough. A couple of high-impact cameos by George C. Scott and Anne Bancroft, and a solid second-string job by Bebe Neuwirth as a dour Bahston-accented policewoman. With Nicole Kidman, Bill Pullman, and Alec Baldwin; directed by Harold Becker. (1993) — Duncan Shepherd
