Maudlin apologia for the Japanese in World War II, set prudently just after truce. Certainly, children make a good symbol (or even good definition) of innocence, and a Little League baseball team makes a good symbol of the future. (How is it, though, that a team that's no match for another youth team can go toe to toe with G.I. Joe?) Certainly, too, any movie with this many children in it is bound to have more than its share of bad acting (not all of it, as it happens, by them). Otherwise: pretty well made, and pretty shamelessly commercial. Directed by Masahiro Shinoda. (1984) — Duncan Shepherd
