Emergency medical technician Susette Kelo (Catherine Keener) epitomizes the kind of calming curbside manner that a patient in need of emergency care would die for. True story: Kelo, a paramedic from New London, Connecticut, grudgingly took on corporate America, journeying all the way to the Supreme Court in order to prevent the titular abode from being leveled and replaced by a Pfizer plant. But eminent domain as a focus of attention evokes little more than imminent disdain for this film fugitive from the Lifetime Channel. Writer-director and first-time offender Courtney Balaker illustrates culture clash by showing Kelo chowing down on home-delivered pizza while her opposite Charlotte Wells (Jeanne Tripplehorn) dines on lobster at the Ritz. Keener stands out here like a diamond skipping across a sea of glass doorknobs; her performance is the only aspect of this Norma Rae Brockovich knockoff that might warrant a trip to the multiplex.
