With the male bonding solidified in the first outing (and Mel Gibson's suicidal tendencies straightened out), all that's left for the sequel is male buddying -- casual, smug, exhibitionistic (even to the point of some James Bond-ian puns and wisecracks: "Nailed 'em both," announces Danny Glover to nobody but the audience, after dispatching two assailants with a carpenter's staple gun). It's almost worth sticking it out just for the sight of Gibson's bullet-riddled body wedded to the sound of "Knock-knock-knocking on heaven's door," but you would have to move fast to the exit to escape the recuperative belly-laughs. Joe Pesci, Joss Ackland; directed by Richard Donner. (1989) — Duncan Shepherd
