No, it isn't a portrayal of the Biblical vision that Arnold Schoenberg had hoped to turn into an oratorio of the same name. The advance advertising campaign tried to make it look like a horror film, tried to hide the fact that it was actually a Vietnam film, tried (to put it in the most generous light) to preserve its "surprise twist." But Adrian Lyne's political concerns are belied throughout by a chic visual style better suited to a Pepsi ad. Sometimes the visual style is so chic you can't even tell what's happening. And the tricksy ending reveals that everything that has happened, including the disclosure of military skullduggery in Vietnam, never really happened after all. So what is this movie about?
