Infidelity and feminism are its core objectives, but you’ll have to wait for first-time writer-director Geeta Malik to set aside her “chick-flick” cravings before she addresses the more pressing issues at hand. Over summer break, Alia (Sophia Ali) learns that her mother gave up her activist ways for a cushy arranged marriage to a serial philanderer. There’s also the question of which boy Alia wants to spend her vacation with. One person’s fluffy comedy is another’s slow-burning drama. This is an even blend of both. The free-wheeling confessionals that cap the proceedings have sure-fire crowd-pleasing delight scrawled all over them. (2021) — Scott Marks
