A genetically-tweaked one-many army (glare-blasting Rupert Friend) comes to the aid of a likewise-amped young women (Hannah Ware) searching for her father. Five words to make grown cinephiles throw up with fear: based on a video game. At least they’re up front about it; the opening prologue reads like a system manual. Joggle the camera, shorten the shot length, plump the Dolby 7, and it’s certain the half-formed target audience will mistake the techo-trickery for artistry. Desperate for something to grab my attention, I spent half the time trying to recall if this was a sequel to a movie I’d never seen (it was), the rest wondering if that was Zachary Quinto or Jason Schwartzman playing the bad guy. Confession is good for the soul: approximately seven minutes were lost thanks to spontaneous slumber. First time director Aleksander Bach should consider a career in aluminum siding.
