A rom-com with precious little com but plenty of unintentionally hilarious rom. Wes Bentley takes his perpetually perturbed mug south of the border to investigate the mysterious woman who stopped in at his dad's funeral and made everyone wonder if the old man had a piece of pollo on the side. Meanwhile, the woman (Ana Serradilla) has her own dead father to mourn, the loverboy she left behind to manage, a flagging acting career to jump start, and her dad's candle factory to run. They're pretty great candles: besides being pretty, their flames change color depending on the energy nearby(!) The titular moon will appear only when she finds her true love. Could that love be the handsome gringo she helped to make a candle? (Yes, wicks are dipped.) Or will his hasty judgment of the funeral-crasher at the outset prove disastrous? Lush autumnal tones, pretty people talking stiffly, and plenty of queso. Shakespeare via telenovela. (2012) — Matthew Lickona
