Bigoted white cop receives the transplanted heart of a dapper black attorney, is haunted by the dead man's ghost -- you can bet the house there'll be a play on the word "spook" -- and together they delve into a Capitol Hill cover-up. It's sort of a Thorne Smith with a social conscience -- a teeth-rattling contradiction in terms. (Very sensible final shootout, however, with the invisible spirit acting as scout and lookout for the beleaguered cop.) The admirable actors, Bob Hoskins and Denzel Washington, do not increase our enjoyment so much as our sympathy. With Chloe Webb; written and directed by James D. Parriott. (1990) — Duncan Shepherd
