Pious run-through of the third -- and finally successful -- prosecution of the white-supremacist assassin of civil-rights leader Medgar Evers, thirty years after the crime. Director Rob Reiner likes to have his points spoken out loud, and though the speech is quieter here than usual (A Few Good Men, The American President), it rises to his preferred siss-boom-bah finish. Good work from William H. Macy as a cranky investigator for the Jackson, Miss., D.A.'s office, and from Ramon Bieri as a good-ole-boy policeman who perjures himself with utmost sincerity. Alec Baldwin, James Woods, Whoopi Goldberg. (1996) — Duncan Shepherd
