Just when you thought the emotional turmoil had been smoothed out, the foster child finds out that his real mother is dead and that he has a half-brother coming to live with him ("It's called kinship care"). Then, flaunting the ideal of the nuclear family, Willy the Whale pays a visit, together with his mother, sister, and brother. Then a Liberian oil tanker runs aground, spilling its cargo. Then -- then -- then -- there's much more, but nothing really to fret about. Laszlo Kovacs's cinematography recaptures the bright sunny look (and outlook) of the predecessor, and Mary Kate Schellhardt adds to the mix some wholesome ("Oh, my gosh!") puppy-love prurience. With Jason James Richter, Francis Capra, Michael Madsen; directed by Dwight Little. (1995) — Duncan Shepherd
