Largely lifeless re-creation of a microscopic piece of recent history, the abduction of the American ambassador by a group of Brazilian radicals in Rio in 1969; a bit like a de-energized Costa-Gavras film of that period. Various factions and individuals are represented fairly, noninflammatorily, but flatly. The average viewer is apt to feel the need, if not the urge, for further investigation. With Pedro Cardoso, Fernanda Torres, Claudia Abreu, and Alan Arkin; directed by Bruno Barreto. (1997) — Duncan Shepherd
