With six days left to serve on his sentence, a gentlemanly convict breaks out of prison in Arkansas when his son is hospitalized in California, and he takes five days to travel cross-country by foot, by hijacked car, by hopped freight train, and by stolen horse, leaving a trail of IOUs and notes of apology, when he could just as well have waited one more day and flown Delta Airlines. George Peppard independently produced and directed this innocuous chase drama, and nepotistically awarded plump supporting roles to his wife, Sherry Boucher, and his sister-in-law, Savannah Smith.
