A wishful title for a slapstick comedy, and an unfulfilled one. It is neither fine nor a mess -- smooth, polished, sharply photographed (by Harry Stradling), but somehow remote, cold, antiquated. What started out to be a remake of the Laurel and Hardy short, The Music Box (you can still see the germ), has ended up as a prolonged chase, with an unharmonious comedy team (Ted Danson, Howie Mandel) pursued by a better-blended team of mobsters (Richard Mulligan, Stuart Margolin) and ultimately by some contemporary Keystone Kops. One at least has enough confidence in it to suppose that the Indian restaurant, "Ghandi's," has been misspelled on purpose -- but as with most of the jokes, recognition does not mean laughter. With Maria Conchita Alonso and Jennifer Edwards; written and directed by Blake Edwards. (1986) — Duncan Shepherd
