Reasonable facsimile of comic sophistication: a thirty-something housewife, still fantasizing about the high-school football hero whom she never went as far as sleeping with, sends her best single girlfriend on a romantic reconnaissance mission, and very soon lives to regret it. The essential middle-class propriety of the thing withstands some strong cynical crosscurrents and knotty farcical complications. And if for the most part it's a girl-talky comedy, or girl-spatty comedy (written by best girlfriends Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon), it allows the men their say, too. Harley Jane Kozak, Elizabeth McGovern, Bill Pullman, Brad Pitt, Ken Wahl; directed by Donald Petrie. (1994) — Duncan Shepherd
