What better cure for suspecting your wife of cheating is there than engaging in casual sex with a stranger? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, except when you’re wealthy sports agent Derrick Tyler (Michael Ealy), whose one night stand turns out to be the same not-quite-done-with-him L.A. detective (Hilary Swank) who, days later, shows up at his home. assigned to investigate a violent breaking and entering. The detective initially appears to be doing Tyler a solid by trailing his wife and confirming his worst suspicions. and in no time the bodies (and suspense) begin to stack up. Add one cup Double Indemnity, two cups Strangers on a Train, a pinch of Touch of Evil (Swank’s arresting officer is named “Det. Quinlan”), and while the result never jells as an erotic thriller — the sex scenes are strictly PG-13 — the end result is a recipe for a derivationally diverting guilty pleasure. Given his track record, director Deon Tayler (Traffik, The Intruder) is turning his Hidden Empire Film Group into a cottage industry for agreeable, never-boring black action thrillers.
