Italian short-story collection -- three in all, by screenwriter Tonino Guerra and three different directors. The biggest name, Giuseppe Tornatore, contributes the slightest and dullest, to do with a stray mutt who attaches himself to a lonely old stuck-in-his-ways bachelor. The other two have a more explicit, more titillating eroticism going for them, although the one by Giuseppe (not to be confused with brother Bernardo) Bertolucci would have been helped in that regard if we could believe Ornella Muti weren't using a body double. The third, by Marco Tullio Giordana, boasts an intense, animalistic portrayal by Chiara Caselli of a new bride who welcomes and encourages the voyeurism of her mother-in-law. With Philippe Noiret and Bruno Ganz. (1993) — Duncan Shepherd
