An all-woman gab fest on food, men, diets, sex, babies, bodies, etc., etc., sort of like a Sally Jessy Raphael or Oprah Winfrey TV show, but organized around a fictional premise of a shared birthday party, at which one of the guests is a video artist doing a documentary for French television. The semi-improvisational acting is almost uniformly uncomfortable, and the editing and directing (by Henry Jaglom) rise to a peak of restless randomness in a scene in the bathroom between Lisa Richards and Frances Bergen. You may sometimes feel you're at an actual party; never at an actual movie. With Mary Crosby, Gwen Welles, and Nelly Alard. (1990) — Duncan Shepherd
