A couple of low-watt bulbs on a chivalrous mission from Rhode Island to Aspen. Not just the developmentally arrested characters, but also the filmmakers ("Prodoosed by ... Durected by ..."), contrive to put even below-average viewers at their social and cultural ease. Pee-pee jokes. Poo-poo jokes. Snot jokes. Fart jokes. Ethnically neutralized Polish jokes, primarily. Some of the manifestations of stupidity (e.g., sobbing at a phone-company TV spot) actually make a point. And Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey (with chipped front tooth and Nutty Professor bangs) are sufficiently talented to alleviate the discomfort, at least intermittently, of even above-average viewers. With Lauren Holly, Charles Rocket, Victoria Rowell; directed by Peter Farrelly. (1994) — Duncan Shepherd
