Mostly tired vampire spoof, but pleasantly so, contentedly so, not ill-humoredly so. The fast-moving and soon-ending storyline confines itself to the various versions of the Bram Stoker prototype, and doesn't wander off on discursive side trips. The cast has plenty of fun with the accents, British, German, and Lugosian (Peter MacNicol has particular fun with Renfield, and Mel Brooks with Van Helsing). And the moralists' timeworn protests over the inherent gore in the genre are given a healthy raspberry when the stake-through-the-heart of Dracula's female acolyte produces an Old Faithful gusher ("She just ate"), not once, but twice ("She's almost dead." "She's dead enough!"). With Leslie Nielsen, Steven Weber, Amy Yasbeck, Lysette Anthony, Harvey Korman, and a cameo for Anne Bancroft; directed by Mel Brooks. (1995) — Duncan Shepherd
