First in the film series employing Ian Fleming's James Bond, Agent 007, Her Majesty's Secret Service. Perhaps a trifle swifter and leaner (Sean Connery conspicuously so) than the subsequent ones; but fairly well developed, muscled, principled, even at this stage. Ursula Andress is Honey; Joseph Wiseman is Dr. No, a half-caste mad scientist with artificial hands and a scheme to take over the world from his missile base on a private islet off Jamaica. (Bond figures him right off as a case of overcompensation.) Directed by Terence Young. (1963) — Duncan Shepherd
