After an incident involving wimpy kid Greg (Jason Drucker) and a dirty diaper goes viral, the red-faced lad takes to the road in the backseat of his parents’ car in this family-friendly alternative to National Lampoon’s Vacation. Director Thor Freudenthal was the first to adapt one of Jeff Kinney’s tales based on the titular middle-school misfit’s fictional journals. Now, three sequels from David Bowers later, we have a fourth installment that actually leads in the laugh department. (Maybe it helps that Kinney had a hand in the script?). Much of the poop humor is surprisingly fresh and funny, as in the scene where only a shower curtain separates an enormous man bent on relieving himself and the hidden, breath-holding boy he’s been chasing. You know, if you go for that sort of thing. How’s that for a recommendation? (2017) — Scott Marks
