Teen romance between an underprivileged, highly motivated Chicano (a football star but also a studious student who can explain the difference between "assert" and "exert" in a class discussion) and a spoiled white rich bitch who shows a lot of midriff and no consideration. Potentially, that's more of a subject than in most youth movies, but it's treated as trite, swept along in a stream of pop songs, predigested sentiments, and predictable plot turns. With Kirsten Dunst, Jay Hernandez, Bruce Davison, Lucinda Jenney, Taryn Manning; directed by John Stockwell. (2001) — Duncan Shepherd
