An escapee from the loony bin, passing himself off as resident psychiatrist thereof, gets to sit in for a radio psychologist on leave of absence: an "idea" comedy with nothing much to back the idea up -- nothing beyond putting Dan Aykroyd in the starring role (where Chevy Chase or Bill Murray would have done as well). He dares to say "fuck" and "asshole" over the airwaves, offers free counseling at his clinic and then ushers the resulting mob to the baseball game in buses, and the big surprise -- well, not so big to anyone who has kept up with comedy in the Eighties -- is that the imposter is a more competent, more caring doctor than the real ones. With Donna Dixon, Charles Grodin, Richard Romanus, and Walter Matthau; directed by Michael Ritchie. (1988) — Duncan Shepherd
