A modern-day Job -- he has lost his wife and unborn child, his house, his job, and although not his dog, at least his dog's left front leg -- and unless and until God gives him some answers to tough questions ("What kind of a God takes a dog's leg?"), he is hell-bent on breaking the Ten Commandments one by one. Is this what's meant by a "schematic" plot? The impish impiety leads ultimately to yellow-filtered enlightenment (and a modern-day Jonah), but then again, there are a lot of yellow-filtered moments, and blue-filtered and green-filtered ones, all throughout this floridly illustrated spiritual odyssey. With Aidan Quinn, Courteney Cox, Anthony LaPaglia; written and directed by Daniel Taplitz. (1997) — Duncan Shepherd
