Those living under the Damoclean sword of at-will employment will no doubt find film-buyer Jeon Manhee’s (Kim Min-hee) dismissal without cause easier to accept than her request for a parting selfie with her boss. But that’s nothing compared to the bafflement audiences will experience when confronted with the subsequent story’s nonsequential unfolding. A gentle and deliberate unlacing is required for director Hong Sang-soo’s jumbled narrative, which is set during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival but depicts not one trampled red carpet nor a single klieg-lighted sky. And the only camera belongs to Claire (Isabelle Huppert), a high-school teacher and amateur photographer who swears that people change after she snaps their picture. There are far too many useless zoom shots here for this particular picture to qualify as life-changing, but it made for a delightfully puzzling way to spend an hour. (Well, 68 minutes.)
