One of the most enjoyably Mexican of movies, and the best tribute made on film to a one-ring circus. In a family tradition, Tino Ponce runs the show that trucks through the hinterland, bringing its classic delights to villagers. For all the endless work, his kids (a great bunch) love the life, though their mom frets about the lack of schooling (those two growing tigers are a bit worrisome, also). Aaron Schock has a superb eye and ear for a total way of existence. His documentary is as vividly alive as a major mural by Diego Rivera, as well-spiced as Diana Kennedy’s books on Mexican cuisine.
