Pierre Richard, older, slower, subtler than in The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe (et al.), as a French gastronome in pre-Communist (but not for long) Georgia, an ambassador of that certain joie de vivre, that haute cuisine, that toujours l'amour, that raison d'être, that je ne sais quoi, and in the long run a figure less inspirational than irritational.
