Three separate tales of terror, linked together by a stray cat who just happens to be present at the time, and who actually takes a hand in the third, doing mortal battle with a knife-wielding troll. All three are written by Stephen King, and all three suffer from his sophomoric and self-serving sense of humor: a Cujo-esque frothing St. Bernard; The Dead Zone on television ("I don't know who writes this crap!"); St. Stephen's School for the Exceptional; and so forth. The first, a parody of anti-smoking aversion therapy, suffers the worst. The second is at least an adequate technical exercise in acrophobia. With Drew Barrymore, James Woods, Robert Hays, and Candy Clark; directed by Lewis Teague. (1985) — Duncan Shepherd
