A retro "woman's picture" more than a modern "chick flick," Ben Sombogaart's fact-based film is like a nostalgic collector's set of cherished movie types. Three young women bond on a postwar flight from Holland to New Zealand. They then share crises, a lover, even a baby, as each finds her innermost Susan Hayward. The hot sex scenes with a winery hunk (Waldemar Torenstra) would have burned down the old Production Code. Issues stack up in an obvious way, but the scenery is fine, and there is honest charm in the acting of Karina Smulders, Anna Drijver, and Elise Schaap. (2011) — David Elliott
