The Bad News Bears sequel isn't so much a follow-up as it is an Instant Replay -- the same ground is gone over in order to get the same laughs, and these kids come off as disturbingly slow learners. The grim prospect at the fadeout is yet a third installment, set in Japan (a new subject for the little WASP second-baseman's racism). William Devane, who has had better jobs but isn't letting on, gets to display his good legs and good form, as he gives the Little Leaguers a crash course in how to "surround the ball" and other basics. With Jackie Earle Haley, Alfred Lutter; directed by Michael Pressman. (1977) — Duncan Shepherd
