Offbeat, roundabout love story. It starts out as a kinky light comedy about a Russian mail-order bride in provincial England who proves to speak only one word of English ("Are you a giraffe?" "Yes"), and who uncovers an instructional stash of S&M porn in the bedroom closet. Then, near the halfway mark, it goes off the rails into an unnecessarily nasty crime caper, though it stays on the track of offbeat love. There are several points at which the hero might have averted the spectator's ire by calling the cops. Ben Chaplin, Nicole Kidman, Mathieu Kassovitz, Vincent Cassel; directed by Jez Butterworth.
