Sarah (Dianna Agron), an impressionable young woman punching the register at a Nevada mart, gives free rein to her dark side by following in the footsteps of a mysterious drifter (Paz de la Huerta) who stumbles into the store. Five minutes inside a strip club with her mentor, and before one can say “Lap dance!” Sarah has become Sahara and is busily working a pole. The chemistry between the two leads – Paz’s boozy, stream-of-consciousness delivery is put to great use – grounds this female buddy picture and, in spite of several opportunities, keeps it from going off the rails. But at 90 minutes, the girls take one spontaneous road trip too many. Also, didn’t they learn from Easy Rider that there’s nothing duller than watching people drop acid? The ending came as a surprise, and was handled sensitively and with dignity in the process. It’s no Ruby In Paradise, but still worth your time. (2015) — Scott Marks
