LEGO as cinema! LEGO as mathematical science! LEGO as therapy! LEGO as art! LEGO as theme park crammed with craggy scale replicas! LEGO as Holocaust remembrance!? (What do you expect from a Weinstein release?) LEGO as official Star Wars merchandiser! Leg’go the kiddie propaganda and there might have been something more than a 90-minute recruitment film for the Danish Disney-wannabes. The toy bricks are credited with ushering in a new era of creativity, but there’s nothing fresh or imaginative about filmmakers Kief Davidson and Daniel Junge pandering to the pleasures of their disciples. Much of the animation – the film is narrated by a cute, characterless CG Minifig (Jason Bateman) – looks like leftover bits from the feature-length commercial that hit theatres in 2014. A documentary geared expressly for children, with guest appearances by Ed Sheeran, Dwight Howard, and Trey Parker. (2015) — Scott Marks
