A film of famous post-production troubles, so watered down in the editing (or somewhere) that you can no longer tell what the hard stuff originally was. Scotch? Bourbon? Rye? Whatever it was, it tastes now like nothing kickier than oversugared and overiced tea: something to do with two style-conscious voluptuaries who go in for the sort of pleasures, involving blindfolds, ice cubes, honey, riding crops and such, which the correspondents to Penthouse Forum like to brag about. Eventually the man with the impish smile, the sweet-nothing whisper, the twinkling eye, and the ooze of self-confidence (Mickey Rourke, in case you don't recognize the description) goes too far: he brings another woman into it — and she doesn't even speak English! Enough already! Or really, enough a long time ago. With Kim Basinger; directed by Adrian Lyne. (1986) — Duncan Shepherd
