Venus in Fur
Be careful what you wish for. Thomas can't find the right woman to star in his new, sado-masochistic play. She must be "sexy-slash-articulate" with classical training and a "particle of brain." Enter Vanda. What follows is a multiple tour de force: David Ives' screamingly funny, thought-provoking script and Caroline Kinsolving's amazing Vanda. She alternates styles, classical and contemporary, even does a Cirque du Soleil routine. Jeffrey Meek's Thomas - on a collision course with a mythological comeuppance - stays right with Kinsolving, as she exposes his biases with surgical precision. Kim Rubenstein and Sam Woodhouse co-directed the 100 minute piece in the round. Co-choreographed's a better term, since the evening flows like a dance.
