Scripps Ranch Theatre's production of this black comedy about unhappy siblings makes for a stunning evening of theater, real under intended artifice. Kathy Brombacher directs with a magical touch. Dana Hooley is sure-footed in her portrayal of Sonia, while Tom Hall gives us a masterful Vanya, and Wendy Waddell, as Masha, expertly satirizes the phony, artificial quality of a fading movie star. The amazing set design by Bob Shuttleworth gives us a cozy Eastern farmhouse living room surrounded by the beauty of nature. Critic's Pick.
