Much credit to director Sean Murray: for the idea of combining Tom Stoppard's loose cannon, intellectual comedy with Oscar Wilde's elegant Importance of Being Earnest. Stoppard, in fact, embedded Earnest into his theatrical maelstrom about the time James Joyce, Tristan Tzara, and V.I. Lenin were in Zurich - as recalled, badly, by Henry Carr. Under Murray's direction, they stage makes visual (and often hilarious) visual sense, even seen through Carr's funhouse mirror of memory. A recommendation: see Cygnet's Earnest first. It functions as a tour guide through Stoppard's shenanigans. And it helps set up his serious debate about the function and value of art.
