The Recommendation
1363 Old Globe Way, San Diego, 92101
Aaron Feldman isn't just entitled, he's exempt. He'll never have a worry in his life. So playwright Jonathan Caren plunks him where the social network can't reach him: jail. Aaron makes a pact with Dwight (as connected behind bars as Aaron is outside), then fails to follow through. The play has a schematic feel (for the ethical dilemmas to unfold, things must happen in spite of logic), but Caren has a terrific comic touch and a gift for dialogue. And the Old Globe's hip, brassy production boasts three fine performances (Evan Todd, Jimonn Cole, and Brandon Gill) and outstanding design work.
