The Gospel at Colonus
4343 Ocean View Boulevard, San Diego, 92113
Who might be the sinner least likely for salvation? How about Oedipus Rex, who murdered his father and married his mother and was so cursed he suffered a living hell. In Sophocles Oedipus at Colonus when he dies, the old sinner becomes a holy man. Lee Breuer turned the ancient Greek myth into a rousing, gospel-sung tale of ultimate redemption. Numerous technical glitches marred Ira Aldridge Players' opening night, the miking most of all. The singers kept the show alive. - in particular, Aaron Holland, Claude Bell, Roosevelt Carter, and Angela Petty, whose "Lift Him Up, "blew the EXIT signs off the walls.
Worth a try.
