A Critic's Pick with caveats. Ion Theatre's staging of Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine's rarely performed musical has many outstanding qualities (especially Melissa Fernandes' special performance as Georges Seurat's lover and her daughter, 98 years later; Blake McCarty's terrific projections; and Janet Pitcher's costumes). But the show is staged in an auditorium, with sound and sightline problems. Go see it, but if you can sit on the left side, or center-left, because two grand pianos, played with expertise by Mark Danisovszky and Daniel Games Greenbush, are house-right. Critic's Pick.
