North Coast Rep offers a highly imaginative production of an original musical, with a soaring score by James Valq and Fred Alley. Jeffrey B. Moss directs with a master's touch. The play is really a Midwestern opera. Set in the woods of Wisconsin in a small dot of a town, it is a simple yet complex story about a troubled young woman trying to start a new life, working in thetown's only grill. The voices in this "opera" are all top flight and leave an indelible impression. Aurora Florence and Meghan Andrews sing and act with gorgeous results. Marty Burnett has designed a set that defies imagination with photographic images and scrim effects.Critic's Pick.
