San Diego, I Love You 3.0
Circle Circle dot dot's "site-specific walking adventure-play for the romantic in us all" follows the end of two relationships and the beginning of another. Performed indoors, it might lose something in the translation. As in been there, done that. But it takes place outdoors at UCSD's Eleanor Roosevelt College. Students between classes lug plugged bookbags; planes buzz overhead. And the actors play students taking a series of courses on love's zodiac ("Break-Up 101," "Advanced Note-Taking," "Final Exam"). Different actors play the same characters in different scenes, which makes the piece a bit confusing (mark their names in scene one), but it accents the general application of the lessons. Written by Katherine Harroff and choreographed by Blythe Barton, the piece starts at the 7th floor bridge, UCSD Hopkins parking structure on Voight Lane. And by having the story set at a university, the actors are inseparable from the students passing by. The same story could be unfolding nearby, for real. Worth a try.
