Ruined
2910 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, 92037
One of the year's finest productions. And the play, about a brothel in the strife-laced Democratic Republic of Congo, lingers in the mind long after the final curtain. Somehow, Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama finds hope - and even humor - amid the devastation. Praise to director Liesl Tommy, to impressive design work (especially the music/soundscape by Broken Chord), and to a first-rate cast headed by Tonye Patano's Madame Nadi, poster-person for "tough love," and Oberon K.A. Adjepong's affable Christian, who could find a silver lining in the perfect storm.
