References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot
Borders between dream and reality blur in Jose Rivera's magic-realism piece. And what Gabriela needs is clarification: about her love, her marriage, her life. Instead, cats and coyotes speak, the moon pays a visit, and her husband, a Gulf War vet with PTSD, may be the most mysterious one of all: who has he become? Director Dana I. Harrel does a commendable job with this slippery play (though stressing the poetry adds an unneeded warp, and the husband-wife clash could use a better balance). Jorge Rodriguez gets all of Benito's pent-up frustrations (but could suggest more lunar appreciation). Jacqueline Grace Lopez effectively wavers from perplexity to assertion, imagination and reality - while reversing the "normal" sense of those words.
Worth a try.
