Picnic
217 N. Coast Highway, Oceanside, 92054
An important drama from one of America's most uknderated playwrights, William Inge, gets a fine producltion at Oceanside Theatre Company. Though smartly directed by Ted Leib, new artistic director of the group, things are too stagey early on. But after a while all becomes believable. Adam Daniel as Hal is appropriately macho and muscular, bukt with a sensitive side. Carolyn Pupinas's Madge is a nice ingenue with a feisty spirit. Sherri Allen effectively underplays schoolteacher Rosemary, and Tracy Williams gives Flo the right feelings, without the usual "motherly" clichejs. The set by Kelly Kissinger is adequate, though not outstanding. Worth a try.
