Our Lady of Kibeho
6663 El Cajon Boulevard, Suite N, San Diego, 92115
Katori Hall's drama creates a manger of belief amid growing violence. In 1981, 17-year-old Alphonsine Mumureke saw a vision fo the Virgin Mary ("the Mother of the Word") in Kibeho, Rwanda. Then she saw another, and got labeled everything from insane to witch. As did young Anathale and Marie Claire when they saw the apparition. During one, the Lady gave a relevation of the violence (the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, and Kibeh Massacre, 1995) to come. Moxie's excellent production brims with laughter, hope, and tears -- and spirit. Critic's Pick.
