Manifest Destinitis
79 Horton Plaza, San Diego
Cost: $35 - $62
Herbert Siquenza's remake of Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid is a wall-to-wall crack-up. He reset the French comedy in Alta California, 1848-50. Don Aragon suffers from "Manifest Destinitis," a severe reaction to invaders of his homeland (it's also known as "Yankee Flu"). Amid all his symptoms, he keeps yelling words from the future -- "tuna casserole!" -- and envisioning the current political scene. The Sam Woodhouse-directed production feels like anything but the world premiere it is. To a person the cast performs with skill and the obvious joy of doing this show. Critic's Pick.
