Kiss of the Spider Woman
This musical recreates a harrowing tale of persecution into a dazzling spectacle by juxtaposing grim realities with life-affirming fantasies. Focusing on two cellmates in a Latin American prison, the story concerns Valentin, a tough revolutionary, and Molina, an unabashed homosexual show shares his fantasies about an actress, Auora, with Valentin, as a way of coping with the horrors of prison. This is a thrilling piece of theater, filled with dramatic intensity and a poetic heart. The Welk Resort production is first-rate and features many fine performances under Ray Limon's taut, sensitive direction. Natalie Nucci makes a captivating Aurora, while Jeffrey Parsons is touching as Molina, and Richard Bermudez brings strength and eventual vulnerability to Valentin.(Recommended for 17+; youngerat parents' discretion).Critic's Pick.
