Ambitious intentions as yet unrealized. Sheri Wilner's sometimes-comedy, sometimes-drama, always uneven world premiere dives into flashpoint terrain. When Miriam wants to stage Arthur Miller's The Crucible at Kingdom City (Missouri) High, it isn't deemed suited for the mostly evangelical students. A culture war ensues. To her credit, Wilner tries to present many sides -- but also to have her play mirror The Crucible, so the characters must be themselves and also Miller's, and each must be a point of view in the multifaceted debate. The play wavers between strong and weak scenes. Same with the characters. Some have energy, others as flat as the hardwood floor at Kingdom City High.
